In recent years, flag-themed sporting events, particularly pickleball tournaments, have become a hallmark of Flag Day celebrations. 

Pickleball’s history started in 1965; it is a paddle sport combining elements of tennis and table tennis. 

The integration of pickleball into Flag Day observances reflects both the sport’s inclusive appeal and its capacity to bring communities together under Old Glory.

Celebrate Flag Day on June 14 with patriotic pickleball tournaments held across the United States. 

Tournament Formats

Most Flag Day events use round-robin or double-elimination formats to guarantee multiple matches for all skill levels (USA Pickleball, 2025).

Courts and equipment follow official specifications to ensure fair play (USA Pickleball, 2025).

Round-robin: each contestant meets every other contestant once (single round-robin) or more than once (e.g., double round-robin) in turn, accumulating points or wins as they go (Wikipedia, n.d.).

Double-elimination: a participant is eliminated only after losing two matches; a single loss moves them into a secondary “losers’ bracket,” but a second loss results in elimination (Wikipedia, n.d.).

2025 Launch for Veterans Pickleball Tournament

A patriotic event supporting local veterans, this tournament brings together players of all levels for friendly competition and community celebration.

First Annual Bunnyman Brewing Pickleball Tournament

This inaugural charity tournament pairs pickleball matches with craft beer tasting, raising funds for Veterans In Pickleball.

When: June 14,  2025

Divisions: Mixed doubles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles

Format: Round-robin pools followed by medal rounds (Zeffy, 2025)
